Manning Gasch

On June 8, 1934 the GF&OD Rail line made its last run. Soon after, the tracks were torn up and the land was turned over to Fairfax County to pay for delinquent taxes.  Former Greenway Heights-area resident Manning Gasch was pivotal in raising private funds to help pave what is now Old Dominion Drive.

From 1946 to 1953, Manning Gasch and Hilda Gasch were the owners of the historic “Prospect Hill” property located at 947 Bellview Road.   The Gasch’s then owned the property located at the corner of  Bellview Road – 8501 Georgetown Pike.  After his Gasch’s death, his heirs sold off that land and house.  Gasch’s former residence still stands – as seen in the photos below.
